The photos in this blog capture the shoe distribution we did in Lavender Hill so well! Be prepared to see some of the most beautiful faces ever! I'll let these pictures speak for themselves, but here's a quick rundown of the distribution:
We hosted the Brunch & Home Brewing Workshop and raised money for 30 pairs of shoes! And a missions team we hosted (Team Detroit) funded another 65 pairs.
Initially, we were going to do the distribution in Philippi, but we felt God telling us to focus on Lavender Hill. So, we teamed up with Pastor Edwin and Angie Du Plooy, Samaritan's Feet, and Team Detroit. Together, we were able to distribute shoes to 95 children at the Du Plooy's soup kitchen. (Edwin and Angie, radical lovers of Jesus, started the soup kitchen five years ago after saving the equivalent of $10 to buy food. It's still run out of their home.)
On the day of the distribution, the kids got to make a caterpillar craft. Then they had their feet washed, were prayed for, and were given a new pair of shoes. Team Detroit also handed out a toy to each child. Afterward, we served soup to 250 children and adults! Praise Jesus for this day and these lives! It sure was a party.
