Six months ago, I made the decision to come to Cape Town, South Africa and help serve as an intern with Yebo Life. My time here started the 21st of May and ends the 22nd of July. The past three weeks have been absolutely amazing. I have met so many Godly and strong individuals who have a heart to serve within their community.
The first week in Cape Town, I was introduced to Yebo Life’s ministry partners: Future Stars, Brightly Beams, Restoring Hands, Rise Up, and Sisterhood. Working side by side with these men and women has been life-changing, and I have learned so much, not only from them but from the kids, the community, and more.
The children that I am able to work with everyday are outstanding. Even though they are not in ideal living situations, they continue to have a smile on their faces every time I see them. Just being in the community alone has taught me to be more grateful for what I have back home in Michigan.
Once thing I know I will take home from this experience is learning how to be more patient. Everyday God is showing me that my life will not come together in one day. Life is a process and an adventure. God has been able to open my eyes and made me realize that sometimes I will have to feel uncomfortable or do things I don’t want to do. With this said, God has shown me that all the things He does in my life, aren’t to set me back, but to grow me into the individual He wants me to become in order to fulfill His plan for my life.
Lastly, Cape Town is absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been!
I have never experienced God speaking to me through His creation like He is doing now in this city. It has opened another door for me to connect with God on a deeper level than ever before.
These past three weeks have flown by, and I can’t wait to see what other opportunities and doors God will open for me during my time here.
